Also called Nitrate/fuel or ANFO it's an high explosive used by mining industry.
Even if the detonation risk looks low it's realy a bad idea. You will probably alterate your engine or simply shock (fill ?) the gas pipe with powder because NH4NO3 is not fuel soluble. |

Hi I'd like to comment on this. I have been working with AN for the last 4 years. Ammonium Nitrate fuel oil or ANFO is a mix of AN and diesel this is because when AN is mixed with Petrol it becomes very sensitve and unstable. The only way AN and petrol will bond is to dissolve the AN in water and use a emulsifyer to join them. The idea i have was to dissolve the AN in water and inject it at hi pressure and temperature into the manifold just like water/metho injection. The only issue with this is that petrol deflagrate in an internal combustion engine. the addition of AN will cause detonation in the chamber and destroy the engine. Building an engine capable of withstanding detonation is the hard part.

Water should be enough to stop detonation. Try increasing the concentration of Ammonium nitrate dissolved in the water slowly.
Also, you could try hydrogen peroxide in varying strengths, but unfortunately H2O2 tends to decompose very easily. You could fill your tank with higher octane fuel before experimenting for safe measure. Cheers, Craig |
