Please use it all the time, most people do not have a clue of how much pounds per square foot is, and how to convert it to gallons. Get modern mythbusters.

Mythbusters is a US production. The US uses imperial measures. End of story, really.

Thats not even true. In science everyone uses the metric system, all over the globe.
In Mythbusters they use meters and litres sometimes, I think they shall do it more often. And think about not using the imperial system(is USA a part of the empire?) since most viewers not is from USA, and Mythbusters has an impact factor to actually help us get rid of the imperial system. I'm not from Sweden, I'm from Scandinavia. Why can´t I choose it? |

When the US got its measurement system, it WAS part of the empire. The metric system did not exist then. They just continued the system they had. As they are introducing a very definitely non-scientifically inclined population (pick any post at random for the truth of this) they will use the measurement system that they perceive their audience will be familiar with. The occasional bit of metric will creep in, but it does not come naturally to them. If we do not attempt the impossible, we can never achieve the absurd. You will know the truth, and the truth will see you fret. |

Although it would life a lot easier you have to remember that there are three ways to do things:
The Right way. The Wrong way. and The American way. Dispite what the rest of the world uses the Americans use there own system, good examples are: Bouyage for ship navigation (USA reversed to the rest of the world). The use of a Diver Down Flag - Flag Alpha for rest of the world but not the Americans. Measurement of a volume, we use either metric or imperial, Americans use there own. Imperial gallon approx 5 Litres. US gallon approx 4 Litres. There has been a few plane crashes because of the last one! |

As an American, I think that sort of generalization is patently absurd. That is like calling all Brits fat drunks, which is obviously not true. Besides, since we Americans can't seem to agree on anything, just what is the American Way?
Besides, the Brits haven't exactly given up their British pound in favor of the Euro, have they? Every country has something they do that flies in the face of other countries actions. I find it interesting that people on both sides the Atlantic make the same sorts of comments about each other and both sides view the other as arrogant for the same reasons. It is exactly this sort of attitude that inhibits cooperation and encourages problems. I for one wish the Mythbusters would use the metric system more often. The Imperial system is stupid and far far inferior to the metric system. Those of us that are trying to convince our compatriots that other countries can have good ideas would appreciate all the help we can get. |

That's why the voiceover translates everything into metric for you. At least, the UK and Ireland voiceover guy (Robin Banks) does. |

jdmimic,
Mate, you really need to take a breath, sit down and relax. And I thought it was just the Germans who didn't have a sense of humour! If you can’t see the irony in two of the most technologically advanced nations building a space craft, send it all the way to Mars just to see it crash because one country was working in inches and the other in millimetres, I don’t hold out much hope for your blood pressure. |
