After watching the first two episodes i'm not that impressed so far. The show is an hour long and you only get to see two or three tats! and on completion you don't get a good look at them.

Hopefully things will pick up as the series runs, but at the moment it isn't as fun to watch as Miami Ink.

Also, why does the voiceover guy go on and on (and on...)about THAT tattoo?! Aaaaah! Roll Eyes

Quite rubbish - we've taken it off our Sky Plus. If I was getting a tattoo done by Dan Gold and that Louis guy kept coming over and "helping" I don't think I would have much confidence in my tattoo artist and his ability.

Also, when that girl had already had one tattoo and decided she wanted it covered up and then couldn't decide on a design, why oh why did they tattoo her HAND! For goodness sake. They should have refused and said that tattoos on the hands, face or neck are really only for people who have a lot of work already and fully understand the implications of having work done in such visible areas.

Personally, I wouldn't go there.

I agree! after Dan had finished his tattoo in episode 1 and Louis said it could have been done better - if you were the customer watching you would be gutted and feel you had been cheated.

I've heard it on other Discovery UK shows, like American Chopper and Mythbusters. It is annoying.

I haven't had a chance to see the show as I have to watch it on my laptop. I'm trying to DL it on you tube and so far a 9 minute clip has taken over an hour to get 1/2 finished. Someone needs to upload a torrent.

I don't think the guys at Miami Ink have anything to worry about, quality wise they are a different class. As for their looks.... the Miami guys win hands down Wink .... Nunez is cute, but there's something about Garver.... Smiler

I have to say that when they promoted the programe i thought it would be a show case for the british tallent. But hay 2 out of 4 aint bad? It has highlighted that the quality in Engalnd is nowhere as good as in the states. The show is boring and as for Dan "crashing out" in the shop just shows how the industry is regarded here. I was also hardly impressed by Nicoles "they get what i give them" speach. I have been in so many Tattooists and they all seem to want to give you a tattoo you never ask for or come up with their preference. Just say no if you cant do it. The poor guy who now has the Buick with the wobbly lines on his arm i feel sorry for. For those who like good tattoos check out High Voltage in LA Kat Von D's new tattooists.

Huuuummmn I think London Ink isnt trying to be Miami Ink! Its trying a different format that shows a more rounded view of tattooing. The people arnt as set up as they are on Miami Ink - they really are genuine clients not people that might look good for the show.

These are real artists not a TV spectacular to collect friends, it shows the genuine love and passion for ink instead of the what would Joe public think TV worthy!

Obviously this is not going to appeal to the " Kat Fans" of this world? ......................... Could you not think of a more individual and less ardent hero worship user name? It might make your posts more valid!

Im a huge fan of Miami and LA Ink and thought great a UK version with London Ink!
I watched it, well gave it a chance as after 10 mins i wanted to turn it off!
The female Nikole has a serious attitude problem, it's what she wants not what the customer wants.
Dan, well promoting someone with anger management problems, talking about chasing his previous landlord with a pick axe is a great start to showing what talent the UK has and he has really bad tattoo work on himself!
The standard of work is very poor and not a patch on the US, surely this is not the best the UK has?
The boss Phil, who tattoo'd Beckham, well that seems to be his only claim to fame cos the work he does is not that impressive!
I won't be watching it again.

To reply to your post Let:

I didn't expect London Ink to be a carbon copy of Miami Ink. What I did expect to see was a 'best of British' group of tattooists and enjoy looking at their work. So far though there hasn't really been many tattoo's shown during the course of each episode (fault of the editing?) and apart from Nicole's tiger backpiece and Louis' sleeve for Polo Mint John the quality hasn't been outstanding.

Re my user name, we've got to call ourselves something Smiler I don't see how my name makes my posts less valid, if you look back I have never even mentioned Kat Von D! I wouldn't call it hero worship to appreciate the ability of a good artist, such as the Miami guys, Dave Attonito, Lal Hardy, Tom Renshaw to name but a few ..... and I could hardly have incorporated them all into a user name .... Wink

Personally if I was a Tattoo artist in the U.K, I would be very insulted with how they introduce them as being "The Best in the U.K"...

Heck I think Yogi's first tat that he did on the practice skin was better than what I have seen these clowns produce so-far...

If this is the best they can do, then I can't see them lasting much longer...

TBH I think Louis Malloy is a complete and utter tool.
The way he undermines Dan is absolutely rediculous. Dan is awesome in his own style, leave the guy alone. In a normal workplace Louis could be done for bullying.
No fun in the show at all. With Miami ink the reason the show is such a success is because of the click the gang have. London Ink is a very poor second best.
Pan it now guys, its an embarrasment to British people.
p.s Louis.... you cant live of Becks tat forever.... move on dude.....

ok - i can't hold it in for any longer.

i've been reading your messages and to be quite frank i'm shocked. london ink is trying to be it's own programme, if you'd seen this before miami ink would you all be thinking the same?

yes i agree that maybe london ink's editing is not exactly brill, but it needs to be taken on face value. you may not like the art work that is coming out of the shop, but all the customers look happy bears to me, and surely it's their opinion that counts?

if you guys like it or not, it does really matter, so long as the customer is happy, try and look more that the technique and processes to may like the art more than just thinking about your own taste.

now then as for samanded's comment about london ink, i cant not see how you think they look dirty. I've been there (if you saw episode 3 I was the daugther having the mermaid) and they are certainly not dirty, just becuase a TV show does not focus on the setting up process does not mean that they are dirty, they certainly are clean and hygenic and i will point out that if this is your bug bear, miami ink certinly does not focus on the setting up / hygine issues either.

as for the louis / dan issue, louis did nothing more that support dan while i was in the studio, and they seemed to have a very good friendship. In my experiance, if you to go to a studio with more than one tattoo artist they normally have a look at each others work and make recommendations and comments, this to me is normal and i think it's being blown out of proprtion.

I'm incredibly happy that louis tattoo'd me and i cant wait to see him again.

please remember that it is amazing what you can do with editing and just try and appreciate the art work.

this programme is being compared and criticised too much:

I am a london ink customer - and I'm more than happy!

Stacy

Well I would not want anyone at London Ink to tattoo me, but I think the issue is not tattoo the shop is dirty it's the low standard of work and the UK have better artists to represent the UK on the show.
Everyone has the right to an opinion, this show is part of a chain of shops across the USA and now in the UK it will be compared to Miami and LA Ink as this is the shows founder.
And we really needed to show that UK is able to perform art with ink like the American's can...
The UK has alot better artist's to offer than that's in London Ink's shop right now.
I feel sorry for Phil as he will always be labeled *the one that tattoo'd Beckham*.

Have to agree with a lot of what has been said.

But I don't think you can criticise the quality of Louis' work. Whilst he doesn't come across too well on the show, his work is very good (even if they can't stop going on about THAT tattoo!!)

Haven't really seen enough of Phil's or Nikole's work to make an opinion. Feel a bit sorry for Dan as i've seen some of his work from the past and thought it was very good, but he's not being shown in a particularly good light on London Ink IMO.

Will carry on watching though as it can only get better!

Kat Fan .............. Sorry but a hero worship name makes you sound 16 and so in love so makes you sound a total KAT FAN! I apologize if I have offended you but that’s the opinion a stranger gets seeing your name and reading your posts? Again I apologize!

Angelcakez ................. Exactly what gives you your opinions? Because the biggest complaint really is you don’t see the detail of the art? So how can you say its dirty there - you weren’t there your just a TV viewer. If what you say is true how do Lou, Phil, Nicole and Dan keep hold of their clients??
............. You’re basically another armchair critic and a keyboard warrior!

............ And poor Dan?? well the editing has been bad, Dan has not been treated badly infact Lou was trying to be a Father figure. He’s done his best to nurture Dan and we witnessed a very caring upbeat Mr. Molloy that worked hard to support Dan.

Its so sad that the Brit's can't appreciate the fact that London ink has tried to get away from "my dogs died so need ink" Maimi Ink format? Its meant to be enjoyable - wash over you good entertainment - which does help to remove the thug attitude that non-inked people have.

It also helps to make the people who want tattoo's question the whole thing which has to be good? We have all seen people wearing bad tribal or them blue torpedo's that are supposed to be dolphins?

Its a shame that everyone feels the need to damn - just because they have too instead of appreciating good old fashioned entertainment!

Whatever - enjoy your small limited worlds! Wink
