Discovery have shown some fantastic and fascinating programming recently during the build up to the 40th anniversary of the Moon landings.

Then there is Moonwalk One.

I was looking forward to this as it seemed to promise so much being touted as ‘Lost for 40 years’ but quite frankly it could have stayed lost.
As documentaries go this one was rather poor. The audio was annoying full of silly music, electronic beeps, whirs, whistles and an awful droning deep base hum that made it difficult to listen to at times and in fact I needed to mute the documentary far too often.
Some of the segments were wholly un-needed such as the Flash Gordon portion and others were overlaid with more annoying sounds such as church bells during the take off of Apollo 11.
The historical portion whilst including Goddard pointedly left out Werner Von Braun who hand more that a passing hand in the American space programme and in particular the Apollo programme.
Described as a look at the Apollo 11 moon mission seen in minute detail never broadcast before this couldn’t be further from the truth.
There are small areas of it that deserve this description such as Neil and Buzz strolling around the lander on the surface of the moon and a few others but overall there is nothing new to this lost film unless you call the film makers insistence of showing unnecessary images throughout the film to apparently express the diversity and fragility of humans and the earth.
A poor, tried and tedious effort understandably lost by NASA for so long that is easily surpassed by the myriad of other films about this subject.
By all means watch it for the short portions of fascinating images revealed here but be prepared to bored for most of the other time.
