My children have been totally traumatised by Flowers death. They cried themselves to sleep after two hours of histrionics after tonights episode. Tomorrow they are building a little memorial in the garden.

My DD daughter said she felt like I had died Red Face

Thank you so much, Shakespearerules, for that beautiful poem. My boyfriend and I have been really down since we saw Flower's death. We were both totally shocked and I couldn't stop crying! The fact that she died protecting her pups shows just what sort of Meerkat she was- brave and true.
My parents think we're being silly but we really think that the world has lost a special girl.
I can't think of any human world leader who was as smart, strong, courageous and compassionate. She was quick thinking and fair- a true great leader.
I feel so bad for Zaphod Frowner
My heart goes out to the team who studies the Whiskers- they must have been so devastated.
We're going to miss Flower greatly.

The poem was wrote by a member of the U.S. AP Forum site. The member didn't mind it being copied and pasted on here.

I do not think the AP/Discovery team thought anything about the emotional effects of this tragedy on adults much less the children. You were there to love and hug your children. I am an adult, my memorial to Flower is completed, also in the garden.

Our dear Flower has passed on. I, like others, was totally devastated tonight when I watched my Friday night regular Meerkat shows. I know what happened to Flower is life in the wild but that really doesn't make it any easier to see her gone. The braveness, kindness and warmth she had was so special and it was seen tonight before she passed when she carried the pup of their enemy into her camp to love and take care of. I will always remember her and to me she will always be the "Whiskers". I can't imagine that there will ever be another leader like our beloved Flower.

My husband and I have been fans of Meerkat Manor since the beginning. The shows seem to be getting sadder and sadder though and tonight was truly the saddest of all. I don't think it will ever be the same without Flower's leadership, couragesness, bravery and love for her family. We will truly miss her.

I just watched the most recent episode of Meerkat Manor and ws devasted and saddened when I learned of Flower's death. Unlike many, I was not aware of her passing until I watched this episode. This brave and strong little meerkat did so much to ensure the survival of her family, even when her actions often seemed cruel to those of us watching. Life in the wild is never an easy one for any animal. Kalahari life won't be the same without this tiny heroine. I am saddened for the researchers who must stand by and watch life take its natural course, when it often means death for those they watch and study. Flower will be dearly missed. I will pray for her little family, and hope that their next leader lives up to Flower's legacy.
Rest in Peace, dear Flower.

I realize that it has been over two years since Flower (VWF026) died from a snake bite, but it was not until recently that I saw her actual death which bothered me greatly. I therefore am putting together a case to present to a NYC law firm to file suit, under US Civil Law, against Oxford Scientific Films, Kalahari Meerkat Project, Professor T.H. Clutton-Brock, Dave Bell, John Brown, et. al. for failure to take action to prevent the death of Flower.

In a nutshell, throwing out all the legal jargon and gobbley-gook, under US Civil Law; When any individual, group of individuals or organization, voluntarily or involuntarily allows an intentional or unintentional act or action to create a situation that may cause physical, mental, or emotional trauma or distress, said individuals or organization may be held liable if intervention on their part or by an agent in their behalf could have foreseeably prevented said trauma or distress.

This suit will not include action against the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet.

I am not looking for any monetary donations, I will pay for this lawsuit out of pocket. I just want justice for Flower.

If anyone wishes to add their thoughts on how Flower's death impacted on their life, please email me at flowerscase@yahoo.com.

Also, if anyone has any information about where Flower is buried, please let me know. I would like to donate a plaque and a small bronze statuette.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I see the way you are thinking about bringing lawsuit against Oxford (which, if I am to be honest, I hope you do not win), but I see your point. OSF, who have been producing Meerkat Manor, are producing a documentary. Thus, meaning - Any interferance would be... Interfering with natural causes. Different if someone drove passed and shot her. But since it was natural death, they are within right to allow her pass.

But, if they had saved her, what would that look like? Acting God? OSF would be the laughing stock of the production world.

I personally feel that allowing her to pass, was the right thing to do, if they hadn't been filming, that is exactly how she would of done if they wern't there.

Not to mention, by doing this, you are most likely to make the chances of having series 5 nil.

And Flower was cremated and her ashes scattered across the Kalahari.

Best Regards
Conor Jackson (Conay)

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You'll most likely be laughed out of the courtroom. They've been studying these animals for years & they were definitely very upset by Flowers death. However, it isn't their job to interfeer with nature. In doing so, they would disrupt the circle of life.
Haven't you ever seen Big Cat Diary? They are forced to sit back and watch innocent cubs get killed or go missing or watch animals starve. The can't try to save them, despite the fact that they want to. Their job is to observe and learn about these animals.
And how about the prey? It isn't easy to watch an animal kill a helpless baby impala. You might as well sue them for not saving the impala?
In short, don't waste your time and money. It is sad to see animals die, but if you can't handle the reality of life and death, you probably shouldn't watch these shows.

I have just saw meerkat manor. I was upset that flower had died. It is a great loss when animals die. Could the film people really have done some thing to help her. It was a nasty bite to the head. What would they have done to help her. Even if the camras where off she still would have died. Its a sad loss but its the way the animal kingdom works. At least she had her pup befor she died, and that she has let an out sider come in. That pup could of died aswell, if Flower did not let it stay.

Yes, the crew did somthing without proper interfeirence. They removed Flower's radio collar to ease her passing.
