I have four female cats. Betty, Veronica, Sable and Pia. They are the most social cats I've ever known. If a friend comes over, they all come out to say hello. My Betty is recuperating now from surgery to remove a growth from her back. Thankfully it was not cancerous. So many people advised me not to have the surgery. They said what if it's not bad, you'll waste $800. I would never risk any of their lives over money. She's a tough girl.

I have to accept that some of the Meerkats are going to die. Even the most popular ones. Have to accept that this is not a "feel-good" animal show.

Red Face SPOILER ALERT!
Frowner
There is sad news from the AP MM producers today. They have informed us that our dear Iron Lady Flower has died after being bitten by a snake.

The letter can be read at the US Meerkat Manor forum under Talk about Meerkat Manor the topic is Producer's Statement.

I know how you feel lawa, but they didn't give us any more information than she was bitten by a snake like her son Shakespeare but wasn't strong enough and was overcome by her injuries. Or something like that.

We will all miss that Iron Lady though, that is for sure!

It must be difficult for the Researchers to not get involved.

I'm a new fan of Meerkat Manor too. I've only recently started watching but due to the time they show it on Animal Planet here, I miss lots of episodes but what I've seen of so far, I've loved the meerkats more and more. I just love those adorable meerkats, even when they do the close-ups and we see the ticks and eye-crud. Big Grin
I do agree with those of you who's said that they should do something about saving the babies. I'm just bawling my eyes out when I saw what the commandos did to baby Bubbles and Mozart's pups and also what happened to Blossom. I have become so attached to these meerkats that it just tears me up when I see one of them die. Is it just me or do the producers seem to enjoy showing the deaths of these meerkats? Is there a way for me to please, PLEASE, request for the producers not to show the actual killing, and just tell us when one of them dies? Please?

I'll miss Flower too but there was discussion in another forum that it was not Shakespeare who was babysitting that day the Commandos came calling. Shakes was babysitting the day before and meerkats normally don't babysit two days in a row, I think someone said that Shakes left the Whiskers when he healed from the puff-adder bite. I lost the link to that forum but I'll keep looking and put it here if I can find it.

I don't feel the same about Flower's apparent death. Yes, a poisonous snake bite is an agonizing way to die. But, Flower had no qualms about killing other family members' offspring. She was vicious and repeatedly banished Whiskers' members to almost certain death. I wouldn't watch Flower die, though.

Now, the snatching of Blossom affected me greatly.

Hi Ashmeer,
The link you are looking for is here
Meerkat Manor US

You can find all of the information on Shakes there at the US Meerkat Manor site and if you don't see what you are looking for, simply post your question as a topic and someone will answer it.
Our US site is always active and we have quite a large friendly and knowledgeable mob in our burrow so you will have someone there that will be able to either direct you to where the information is or give you the answer you are looking for.

jm - Hello again I agree with you on Blossom. That was the single worst death in my opinion on the show so far. I won't ever watch the scene again on that episode! I don't understand how any person could just stand by while that poor little animal was taken like that. I don't care if it was against the rules, in the name of research, natures way or especially to catch footage of something previously never before filmed! It was inhumane!
They have already interfered with nature by allowing humans such close contact so that the pups felt safe around the humans who is to say that Blossom didn't think that the camera person wasn't going to protect her?

I would have easily given up my job no matter the salary or consequences so save that little girl!
We have protested this along with other deaths at the US MM forum as well, but have been told by Animal Planet that it is all part of nature and no interference can be made. Same old story.

We have been able to make some headway with them though as they did inform us about Flower before it was sprung on us during Season 3, which we pretty much all agreed was a nice gesture, as none of us wanted to find out by seeing it happen. After the whole Shakespeare debacle and all the beetle dung we raised, at least they learned that we are fans you can't mess with!

You should really check out the USA's Meerkat Manor's forum at least during the off season while the UK's forum is slow, just to see what is going on there and I think you will be surprised at how active it is all year round and how much information you will be able to find there.

ATTENTION ALL MEERKAT FANS

The East Coast Meerkat Society is an informal group of men, women, and youngsters joined by a common, passionate dedication to Meerkats, those exciting foot-tall animals whose lives have inspired the Meerkat Manor TV series that soon will be starting its third season.

Our group includes moms, working professionals, teachers, IT consultants, veterinarians, medical researchers, and some amazing teenagers. Our group's name was chosen because we first met at the National Zoo in Washington DC on December 2, 2006 -- on the USA East Coast.

We welcome people from around the world to join us. No dues, no qualifications needed other than an interest in meerkats and the extraordinary work-sharing community they have evolved.

Visit us at ECMS - Meerkats Rule! or you can also send an email to:

friends@meerkatsrule.org

and we will send you information about our group, our activities, and our progress.

Meerkat Lover - You may be able to get it on ebay once it is release but other than that, I don't think Discovery releases it to anyone else for sale. But I am not 100% sure on that.
